MULTIPLAYER rankings

How your rating is computed

Every player starts at 1000. A ranked match moves both ratings according to the result and the gap between them: beating a stronger player pays a lot, beating a weaker one pays little.

The ELO rating

Before the match, the rating gap gives each player their chances of winning. Afterwards each player gains or loses 32 points times the difference between their result (1 for a win, 0.5 for a draw, 0 for a loss) and their chances. What one gains, the other loses.

Two players at 1000 The winner gains 16 points, the loser loses 16.
1200 against 1000, the favourite wins The favourite gains 8 points: the win was expected.
1200 against 1000, the 1000 player wins They gain 24 points, the favourite loses 24.
1200 against 1000, draw Half a win: the favourite loses 8 points, the other gains them.

Rank letters

A letter sums up the rating. During the first 10 matches of a rating it stays provisional and the letter shows "?".

E below 700
D 700 to 999
C 1000 to 1299
B 1300 to 1599
A 1600 to 1899
S 1900 and above

Three ratings per player

Per game

Your rating on Street Fighter II' Champion Edition, on Windjammers, on Tetris The Grand Master 2: every ranked game has its own.

Per genre

Fighting, puzzle, sports, racing: every match also moves the rating of its genre.

ELOF

The all-round player: the average of your genre ratings, weighted by the number of matches played in each. Fighting at 1200 over 30 matches and puzzle at 1000 over 10 give an ELOF of (1200 × 30 + 1000 × 10) ÷ 40 = 1150.

A match that counts

  • The game is ranked: the cabinet reads the end of the match in the game's memory itself, without asking the players anything.
  • The host and a guest report the same result. If they differ, the match is disputed and ratings stay unchanged.
  • A state load, a rewind or fast-forward voids the match.

Fair play

  • Only one win per game counts against the same opponent within 24 hours, for each of the two players: the next ones are friendly matches.
  • A player who did not play (no input since the match started, or nothing done in the game) makes the match a no contest: no rating, no win. A pause does not count: playing again is enough.
  • Leaving a match in progress is an abandon: the leaver loses points, the other neither gains nor loses. On the third abandon, 15 minutes without MULTIPLAYER; every match played to the end erases one.
  • Leaving because the opponent stopped playing is not an abandon.
